Our table chickens, capons and turkeys are raised in low density, spacious outdoor pens, with no more than ten birds to each shelter, and are free to forage for both plant and invertebrate food. Additional protein is provided in the form of organic chicken feed - supplemented by hand gathered herbs, wild plants and vegetables.
All of our table chickens are raised for at least 70 days and benefit from interaction with the keepers and added enrichment every day. Chickens perform an essential role within our rotational grazing plan - moving each chicken-tractor daily and moving the enclosure every five days to follow on from goats and sheep. Chickens eat the parasites, enrich the ground and clear invasive plants such as dock - avoiding the use of herbicides.
We raise chickens this way because we think it is ethical that the birds should enjoy natural space and enrichment. It also produces a table bird with a rich and exciting flavour that is far superior to that of any supermarket bird.
Our chickens are generously sized between 2.5-3.5kg. The price includes free delivery to most local areas.
